We have guitars, bass guitars, drum kits, keyboards and amps at our school that you can borrow. Drummers need to bring their own drum sticks and guitarists and bassists usually bring their own instruments. 

For now we do not teach at any other locations than our school in Velliveien 15. 

You can never be too old to pick up an instrument. We have a lot of adult students in private lessons and bands and we take great pride in being a school with students of all ages, genders and nationalities. 

Don´t worry! The school is located in Jar (Bærum), but is easily accessible from Oslo by T-bane, Tram and bus. A majority of our teachers live in Oslo.

At our school you can book a few lessons and try out a different instrument each time before you settle for one. We have several students who swap instruments regularly.

When paying the invoice from us your are paying for:

• The teachers time during the lesson
• The time the teacher uses to prepare for your lesson (as we make a custom plan for each individual student the teacher spends a lot of time preparing for your lesson)
• Any study materials given in the lesson
• The use of any equipment we have at our school
• The expertise of well educated and highly experienced teachers

The Melodilab year is split into three terms, and you will be invoiced at the beginning (2nd week) of each term:

• Term 1, August - December
• Term 2, January - March
• Term 3, April - June

• To enhance academic performance. A music study conducted by the American Psychological Association has shown that taking music lessons in childhood was a significant predictor of a higher IQ in young adulthood and a history of better high school grades. Students who start music lessons between the ages of 6-11 demonstrate “an increased IQ, improve test scores and maintain better reading comprehension than their non-musically trained peers.
• To improve fine motor skills. Learning a musical instrument helps develop hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
• To boost self-esteem and confidence. Private music lessons provide a forum in which students can receive constructive feedback in a safe and positive environment. 
• To improve mental health. Listening to music and participating in music lessons can provide significant relief from stress and anxiety. As a student focuses and concentrates their attention on music, it can serve as a healthy distraction from the challenges, stresses and anxieties life brings. Music has the ability to elevate mood, relieve symptoms and even ease physical pain. Music acts as a vehicle for positive self expression, a crucial outlet necessary for human nature.
• To improve your social life. Our music school is a forum in which you meet other people with the same aspirations and interests as yourself. Some students are here to become the next superstar, but some people are taking lessons with us purely as a social event and we are all for it!
• It teaches you about self-discipline and patience. Private music lessons provide a forum in which students can practice receiving constructive feedback in a safe and positive environment. In today’s world of high speed internet and instant gratification, we’re acclimated to getting what we want with minimal effort, right when we want it. Music lessons (being slow and gradual in nature) provide an excellent way in which we can teach our children that rewards await those who work hard and never give up.

Most of our lessons are in weekdays 15:00-21:30. Contact us to get an offer for a time slot. 

We recommend weekly lessons for the best learning outcome, but we have had success with students having lessons every other week as well. Contact us to see if we can customize a plan for you.

We have had great success with students joining us for a shorter period to record some songs for their own joy or as a gift to someone special. 

Yep! We host live events and other fun activities for our bands and private students throughout the year. The highlight of last term was the recording week where we turned our school into a recording studio and gave all our bands the opportunity to professionally record their songs. Some of the live-events are for adult bands only, some are for our young bands and some are mixed. See the section "Events and dates" for more.
